[Introduction] In the face of the global wave of clinical mass spectrometry, even Shimadzu, which rarely participates in capital operation, has recently revealed the news of acquisition: Shimadzu announced that it has wholly acquired AlsaChim, an independent contract research and development institution in France, through Shimadzu Europe.

The exact amount of the transaction was not disclosed. After the acquisition is completed, the AlsaChim brand and company name will continue to be retained, with the sub-name of "Shimadzu Group Company.

AlsaChim is a well-known innovation company that provides stable isotope labeled compounds/metabolites and drug-related substances to customers in the clinical and diagnostic fields. AlsaChim addition is a complement to Shimadzu's clinical mass spectrometry products and solutions. Its expertise and market experience in the field of stable isotopes will expand Shimadzu's value-added hardware/software route and provide a more complete application package for LCMS-triple quadrupole instruments and CLAM-2000 automatic sample pretreatment systems with the help of standards and kits.
With the acquisition of AlsaChim, Shimadzu also added value to its European Innovation Centre (EUIC), particularly in the area of clinical mass spectrometry, which EUIC focuses on. Disciplinary expertise from leading European universities will be combined with Shimadzu's cutting-edge technology to provide a more customer-centric service.
"The addition of AlsaChim will expand the strong partners we have in the organization to finalize and validate new applications, take advantage of products developed by EUIC and transfer them to ready-to-use products," said Bjoern-Thoralf Erxleben, senior analytics manager for Europe at Shimadzu."
The AlsaChim provides comprehensive knowledge of stable isotopes and a large number of reference materials, providing Shimadzu with a variety of opportunities in the overall solution of clinical mass spectrometry hardware, software and application kits, so as to win the market recognition and follow-up business of customers. Previously, customers may have to face different suppliers in the procurement process, but now a one-stop solution covering sales, service, support and consumables has emerged, and customers can benefit from it.
Shimadzu will cooperate with AlsaChim to build a new business platform for EUIC Center and its partners, and cooperate in the development of total solutions including application kits, so as to increase new business opportunities for Shimadzu in the clinical and diagnostic markets. "As part of the Shimadzu Group, the demand for AlsaChim products in the new sales area is expected to increase, and we will also provide stronger technical support than before," said Jean-Francois Hoeffler, president of the AlsaChim."
