Research Status of Radioisotope Carbon -14 Labeled Synthesis in China

Radioisotope carbon -14 labeled organic matter is a necessary tracer to study the movement and change of corresponding non-labeled substances in complex systems (human, animal, plant, microorganism, soil, water, etc.). Carbon atom is the basic element to form the skeleton of organic compounds. Labeling organic matter with radioactive isotope carbon -14 is the most basic and commonly used labeling method for organic matter. Compared with radioactive element tritium, its stability is better.
Radioisotope tracer technology is a civilian non-power nuclear technology formed by the deep integration of modern chromatographic analysis technology, modern wave spectrum analysis technology and nuclear technology. It has been widely used in the development of new drugs (medicine, pesticide, veterinary medicine, etc.), biological science and environmental protection abroad.
At present, Sichuan Nuclear Power Design and Research Institute is working hard to study the production process of radioisotope carbon -14 raw materials, but there is still no product on the market; therefore, domestic radioisotope carbon -14 raw materials mainly rely on imports from the United States, Russia, Canada, the United Kingdom, France and other places.
From the network query results show that: the domestic drug Mingkang, Nanjing Meixinnuo (has been acquired by the drug Mingkang) and Shanghai Qizhen isotope label synthesis research center have obtained the "radiation safety license", to carry out the synthesis of radioisotope markers.
At present, the purchase of radioactive materials is mainly handled through China Tongfu Co., Ltd. (the largest agent in China).
Due to the constraints of technology, funding, policy and talent factors, the use of radioisotope tracer technology is not very extensive in China. In the process of new medicine research and development, China's Shanghai Institute of Medicine Pharmaceutical Generation Center with the help of this technology to carry out new drug (candidate) ADME research; Zhejiang University Institute of Nuclear Agriculture also uses this technology to carry out pesticide metabolism, fate and environmental behavior research. The Nanjing Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences mainly uses this technology to carry out research on environmental pollutants, but does not do synthesis research; the Institute of Atomic Energy Utilization of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences also carries out pesticide isotope labeling synthesis and tracer research, but these two teams gradually declined.
It is expected that the field of radioisotope labeling in China will slowly develop and provide effective material guarantee and technical support for the development of medicine in China.
